In order to pay for the war and keep a lid on inflation, President Roosevelt launched the War Bond Program. The Treasury Department started issuing bonds in 1941. A total of eight bond drives were initiated during the war.

 

On June 6, 1944, the Fifth War Loan Drive was launched. This bond offer consisted of several series, the most popular being the “Series E public participation” small-denomination bond. To help promote the sale of series “E” bonds, Disney allowed a certificate to be printed using 22 of his most popular characters…
